Above
is a simple diagram of a FXS gateway when belownoted
may be observed:

In simple, a
FXS gateway is a device which connects to CONSAM Telephony server via Internet
connection and then connects to several no of Basic phones to provide each
basic phone an extension number (e.g., 5001, 5002, 5003 and so on).

A FXS gateway
is available in several ports (i.e., 4 port, 8 port, 16 port etc.) when a 4
port FXS gateway enables connection of 4 nos. of Basic phones and a 16 port FXS
gateway enables connection of 16 nos. of Basic phones.

In a small
office where telephone wire can be easily managed, a FXS gateway can be
deployed (e.g., we have 4 number of small offices at different cities, then in
this circumstance 4 number of 4 to 16 port FXS gateway can be deployed at these
4 numbers of offices when every basic phone extensions will be able to connect
to each other at all the 4 locations).

Since,
extension number of basic phones belong to CONSAM telephony server; these basic
phones can also connect to IP phones which has been deployed at your
organization which means whether, it is basic phones or IP phones, all are
extensions that can connect to each other.
